About Us
The Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve (NBR) is the first Biosphere Reserve of India. It provides habitat for about 110 exclusive endemic plants. NBNP is a replica of the NBR, focusing on conserving its flora and fauna.
Ever since inception, NBNP has been proactively involved in various conservation-related activities and has attracted many nature lovers and students. The first Botanic Education Workshop was organised in collaboration with Zoo Outreach Organization and Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) in 1995. The aim of this workshop was to bring together zoos, botanic gardens, forest departments, research institutions and NGOs, to work towards plant diversity. In recognition of NBNP work, the BGCI awarded a grant through National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI), Lucknow, under Investing in Nature India to establish an Arboretum for the endemic and endangered plants of the NBR and promote conservation education.
Regular environment related educational programmes like nature camps, trekking, plant identification, quiz competitions etc. are organised for school and college students.
